In an interview with Vanguard, Gabam stressed that governance is a collective effort and not a one-man show, adding that Tinubu’s failure to assemble a knowledgeable team is preventing his government from effectively tackling Nigeria’s challenges.
“What the president lacks is a strong team. Governance is not about individualism or a monopoly of wisdom. That’s why there is a division of labor,” Gabam said.
He emphasized that a well-structured cabinet, familiar with Nigeria’s unique challenges, would be more responsive to the plight of citizens.
Citing the case of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who went viral for lamenting her inability to afford a crate of eggs, Gabam criticized the government’s failure to acknowledge the daily struggles of Nigerians.
“She was in tears on live television because she couldn’t afford basic needs, yet she was threatened for speaking out. Is that democracy? Is that the freedom of expression guaranteed in our constitution?” he questioned.
“Millions of Nigerians Are Dying in Silence” – Gabam
Gabam also highlighted the deteriorating state of healthcare in Nigeria, lamenting that many citizens cannot afford medical treatment.
“Millions are suffering in silence. Visit hospitals and see the reality. Patients are left untreated because they can’t pay their bills. Some die before they even get admitted due to bureaucratic delays,” he stated.
He concluded that these challenges stem from governance failures, which could be mitigated if the president had a capable team to provide sound advice and implement effective policies.
