Security Alert: Lere Olayinka Calls For Urgent Probe Of Alleged Violent Remarks In JIBWIS Drill
Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate a viral video allegedly containing remarks inciting violence against Christians.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the footage reportedly shows members of the First Aid Group (F.A.G.) of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) participating in a drill.
Olayinka raised concerns over the content of the video, claiming that a translation of the drill leader’s remarks included demands for AK-47 rifles and references to attacks against people described as “infidels” in Jos, Plateau State, and Enugu State.
The alleged remarks reportedly referred to targeting people during Sunday worship services in Enugu before making further references to attacks in Jos. The comments have raised concerns about the possibility of religiously motivated violence if the footage is authentic and accurately translated.
The presidential aide’s media representative urged security agencies to act promptly by examining the video, establishing its origin and verifying the context of the statements attributed to the speaker.
He stressed the importance of taking appropriate measures to prevent any potential threat to public safety and maintain peace amid concerns about religious tensions.
However, the claims remain allegations based on the circulating footage and Olayinka’s interpretation of its contents. The authenticity of the video, the accuracy of the translation and the circumstances surrounding the drill have not been independently established in the information provided.
The call for an investigation places renewed attention on the responsibility of security agencies to verify potentially inflammatory material and determine whether any laws have been violated before taking appropriate action.
