Security Sector Shake-Up: Presidency Rebukes ADC, Hails Tinubu’s Record-Breaking Progress
The presidency has accused African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi of misrepresenting Nigeria’s security situation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, countered Abdullahi’s claims, arguing that President Tinubu has achieved more in two years than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which Abdullahi once served as a minister, did in sixteen years.
Abdullahi, in a Saturday post on , wrote that rising insecurity across the country—including violent attacks in Kwara, Katsina, and elsewhere—demonstrates that Nigeria “has no government.”
In response, Olusegun accused the former minister of distorting facts and using reverse psychology to downplay the government’s efforts.
The presidential aide highlighted Tinubu’s key security initiatives, including increased defense spending, sustained military operations, efforts to fast-track the establishment of state police, and recruitment of additional security personnel.
He added that, contrary to Abdullahi’s claims, these measures are already producing results, while recent attacks, though condemnable, do not negate the progress made.
Olusegun wrote: “While recent attacks are regrettable, it is dishonest—though unsurprising coming from you—to compare a president who has achieved more in two years for the security sector than your former party did in 16 years.”
He listed the Tinubu administration’s accomplishments over the past two and a half years:
-
Defense spending rose from N1.25 trillion in 2023 to N4.91 trillion in 2025, enhancing counterterrorism efforts and inter-agency coordination.
-
Military operations have led to the surrender of over 160,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP members and their families.
-
Local policing initiatives have begun in several states, complemented by forest guards, mining marshals, and other community-based security services.
-
Army depots were established in Osogbo and Ebonyi to decentralize recruitment and expand military participation.
-
A new counterterrorism doctrine was introduced, classifying all armed non-state actors as terrorists.
-
Initiatives like the Livestock Development Ministry and the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children aim to reduce farmer-herder clashes and prevent youth recruitment into armed groups.
-
The Nigerian Air Force added five aircraft, enabling over 8,665 missions and 15,915 flying hours, resulting in the neutralization of 9,415 terrorists, arrest of 3,159 suspects, and rescue of 5,449 hostages between August 2023 and April 2025.
-
Efforts have also helped reduce the influence of groups such as IPOB and strengthened community trust.
Olusegun concluded that Nigerians who have experienced both administrations can see the tangible progress under Tinubu and will not be misled by attempts to rewrite history. “We will not stand by while you misrepresent the facts,” he said.
