Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central, has cautioned Governor Abba Yusuf against defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling such a move an act of betrayal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The warning comes amid internal tensions within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) over Yusuf’s reported plans to join the APC.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Hanga said defecting would not sit well with Kano voters, who value loyalty and integrity. He also noted that those urging Yusuf to leave the NNPP are not acting in his best interest.

The senator reminded the governor of his long-standing political relationship with NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, emphasizing that Yusuf’s political ascent was built under Kwankwaso’s mentorship.

Hanga stated, “Truly, those encouraging Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to join the APC are not his friends. Anyone who genuinely cares for him would not ask him to betray the people of Kano, the North, and Nigeria—especially at a time of fuel subsidy removal and new tax reforms.

“Anyone who loves Abba would not ask him to be ungrateful to Kwankwaso, who guided him from when he ‘had no teeth’ to become the leader he is today. Is he so desperate for a position that he would jeopardize everyone else?”

Reaffirming his loyalty to Kwankwaso, the senator dismissed suggestions that the former Kano governor might secretly support Yusuf’s defection.

He added, “In Kano, we do not celebrate betrayal; we pity the betrayed. You cannot betray someone and earn the admiration of Kano people. If I meet Abba, I will advise him to disregard anyone pressuring him to betray Kwankwaso. I stand with Kwankwaso 1,000%, until death. Any elected official planning to join the APC now would be making a grave mistake.”
