This action was taken following the adoption of a motion on the “Immediate need for schools to place their creches and nursery classes on ground floors of multistory buildings and enforce safety protocols,” by Sen. Adebule Oluranti (APC-Lagos) in Abuja yesterday.
In presenting the motion, Oluranti highlighted that Udo’s fatal fall from a building at the Emerald International School in Aba, Abia, resulted in his passing on Oct. 24.
She emphasized that the incident underscores safety concerns in schools, especially for infants and toddlers in creche and nursery schools across Nigeria.
“The objective is to conduct investigations that lead to state policy guidelines preventing a recurrence of such tragic accidents,” she mentioned.
Expressing apprehension, she noted that state policies and school administrators were expected to exhibit a duty of care, ensuring the proper monitoring of babies and toddlers in their care, thereby preventing any incidents of falling from high-rise premises.
