The Office of the Auditor-General, the highest audit body in the country, has been without a permanent leader for nearly a year, which could impact the strict adherence to accounting standards and the transmission of annual reports of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to the parliament.
This situation may hinder the necessary checks and balances integral to the functions of National Assembly committees responsible for Public Accounts.
Wadada emphasized that appointing a substantive Auditor-General is essential to strengthen the Federal Government’s commitment to fiscal responsibilities and maintain public trust.
He also highlighted that the non-appointment of an Auditor General has delayed the transmission of the Audit Reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022 to the National Assembly in accordance with section 85 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.
To ensure efficient governance, transparency, and accountability, he urged President Tinubu to heed his advice and take the necessary steps promptly.
