According to sources, the abductors are demanding ₦150 million for the freedom of the monarch and his son, Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, while an additional ₦300 million has been demanded for the release of eight other persons kidnapped in Adanla-Irese, a suburb of Igbaja.
A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the kidnappers contacted the families of the victims on Friday to convey their demands.
“The kidnappers reached out this afternoon and asked for ₦150 million to secure the release of Kabiesi and his son. Since the incident occurred, our family has been devastated. We entered the new year in sorrow and tears. We are appealing to the government and security agencies for help because we don’t know what else to do,” the source said.
Confirming the development, the Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, said the abductors had made contact with the families.
“Yes, it is true. The bandits demanded ₦150 million for the release of Kabiesi and his son earlier today. Just two days ago, they also demanded ₦300 million for the release of those abducted in Adanla,” he stated.
The monarch and his son were abducted on December 31, 2025, in the Ile-Ire district of Ifelodun Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly stormed the palace in Aafin Ile-Ere around 8:00 p.m., firing gunshots and forcibly gaining entry after breaking down doors.
The incident threw the community into panic, highlighting the growing insecurity in Kwara South.
During the attack, the queen consort, Felicia Olaonipekun, was shot in the arm but was not abducted. She was later taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
