Sh*ck U-Turn: NSCDC Boss Abruptly Withdraws Petition Against Police From Senate
The leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed its dissatisfaction over a petition reportedly submitted by the Commander of the Mining Marshal, ACC Attah John Onoja, to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The petition alleged that police officers attacked and opened fire on NSCDC mining marshals and obstructed their efforts to prosecute illegal miners arrested in Nasarawa State.
ACC Onoja was said to have filed the petition against the Nigeria Police Force without obtaining clearance from the NSCDC leadership.
In a statement released by CSC Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer at NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja, it was revealed that Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi was displeased with the development. He emphasized that ACC Onoja acted beyond his authority by submitting the petition without management approval.
The NSCDC leadership has officially distanced itself from the petition and instructed the officer to withdraw it immediately. This directive, according to the statement, aims to preserve the cordial inter-agency relationship between the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police, as well as the strong cooperation between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the NSCDC Commandant General.
The NSCDC acknowledged the continuous support of the IGP’s office in fostering collaboration among security agencies, a key factor in promoting national security and aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
While the Corps is considering disciplinary action against the officer involved, the Commandant General reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in the fight against crime and insecurity across the country.
“I have spoken with the IGP regarding the matter and sincerely apologize for any embarrassment the petition may have caused,” Dr. Audi stated.
