Sh*ck Waves: Sylva Races To EFCC, Demands Immediate Date For Probe!
Former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has formally written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), requesting that a date be set for him to appear before the agency regarding allegations of $14.8 million fraud.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The letter, dated November 24 and acknowledged by the EFCC on November 26, follows the anti-graft agency’s declaration that Sylva was wanted—an announcement he described as leaving him “taken aback.”
In his correspondence, Sylva maintained his innocence and emphasized that he is not evading investigation, but is currently awaiting medical clearance.
“I respectfully request that a mutually agreed date be set, subject to medical clearance, to enable me to appear in person. I trust that the purpose of your invitation is to investigate an alleged crime, which I firmly deny, and not to cause me harm,” he wrote.
Sylva explained that he is undergoing urgent treatment for a life-threatening condition and is consulting his doctors regarding when it will be safe for him to honour the invitation.
He noted that he had previously responded to an EFCC summons in December 2024, was granted administrative bail on self-recognition, and had not been contacted by the Commission since then.
Addressing claims that he “jumped bail” or “evaded lawful invitation,” Sylva rejected these allegations as inaccurate, stating that no conditions of his administrative bail were violated.
“I have never declined or evaded any lawful invitation. The claim that I jumped bail is incorrect. No such bail condition existed or was breached by me,” he reiterated, warning that such claims could create public confusion.
Sylva also recounted what he described as distressing events, including an armed operation at his Abuja residence, during which several of his aides and staff were arrested. He said drivers, security personnel, and domestic staff were taken into custody and remain detained.
The former minister cautioned that the sequence of events could give the public the impression of political persecution, adding, “The recent actions may be misinterpreted as a political witch-hunt, especially considering that I appear to have been a target since the beginning of this administration.”
