Sh*cking Confession: Neymar Reveals What Triggered His Tears After Santos’ Defeat
The Brazilian superstar, who made his return to Santos earlier this year after a disappointing stint in Saudi Arabia, broke down in tears at the Estádio do Morumbi following the final whistle. It marked the heaviest loss of Neymar’s career and the first time in history that Santos conceded six goals at home in a Brazilian Serie A fixture.
Speaking to The TouchlineX after the match, a visibly shaken Neymar admitted:
“We were so sh*t. It was a disgrace. The fans are right to curse and insult us today. I feel ashamed—I’ve never gone through anything like this in my life.”
He continued:
“I’m completely disappointed with our performance. The fans have every right to protest, as long as it’s not violent. But if they want to curse and insult us, that’s within their rights. Our attitude on the pitch was disgraceful… honestly, it was total s***, and that’s the reality.”
Neymar’s emotional reaction underscored the dire situation facing Santos, who now sit just two points above the relegation zone after winning only six of their opening 19 league matches.
The fallout was swift. Barely 30 minutes after the game, Santos announced the dismissal of head coach Cleber Xavier. In a brief statement, the club declared:
“Santos FC announces the departure of coach Cleber Xavier. The club thanks him for his service and wishes him success in his career.”
Xavier, 61, had only been appointed in April and was serving in his first head coaching role after years of working as an assistant.
