The arrest occurred at her mansion in the Okota area of Lagos, following the interception of a truck carrying illicit drugs, operated by one of her staff members.

This development was confirmed in a statement issued by the NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

Known in the drug trade as “Iya Ruka,” Alhaja Ajoke had evaded law enforcement for years despite being a prominent figure in the underworld. The NDLEA had listed her as a wanted individual for heading a drug cartel based in the Mushin area of Lagos.

The breakthrough came on January 1, 2025, when NDLEA operatives intercepted a white Isuzu truck transporting 44 jumbo sacks containing 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis. The driver, 41-year-old Abideen Adio, was detained, and subsequent investigations led to a raid at her residence at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, where she was arrested.

While publicly recognized as a businesswoman importing fabrics and shoes from China, Alhaja Ajoke secretly ran a large-scale drug operation. She also holds the title of Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, a prominent Lagos socialite club.

In a separate operation, NDLEA agents arrested Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe, a US-trained Nollywood filmmaker and motivational speaker, on Friday, December 27, 2024, at a hotel in Lekki. His arrest followed the detention of his associate, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, earlier that day at a warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja. Ugochukwu was caught retrieving 33 parcels of Loud, a potent cannabis strain weighing 17.30 kilograms, concealed in wooden boxes shipped via a Delta Airlines flight from the United States on December 24, 2024.

In Kwara State, NDLEA officers apprehended two individuals involved in producing and distributing drug-laced cupcakes on December 29, 2024. The suspects, 24-year-old Khadijat Abdulraheem, a graduate, and 20-year-old Ayomide Morakinyo, a University of Ilorin student, were arrested at Tanke-University of Ilorin Road, Ilorin. A search of their apartment uncovered 42 drug-laced cupcakes.
