Speaking on Saturday at a grand reception in honour of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who recently defected to the APC, Akpabio hinted that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri could be the next to join the ruling party.
He praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his reported bold move to abandon the PDP for the APC and expressed confidence that a political wave is sweeping across the South-South region.
“Governor Umo Eno, after you, who knows—Rivers State will tumble. After Rivers, Bayelsa will join. And of course, we won the election in Edo State,” Akpabio said.
He further declared that by 2027, the entire South-South region would rally behind President Bola Tinubu and the APC.
“Come 2027, the South-South will go one way. The South-South will vote for President Tinubu,” he asserted.
Akpabio also commended the people of Akwa Ibom for supporting Governor Eno’s decision to align with the APC.
Meanwhile, Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the APC, has dismissed current speculation over who will be Tinubu’s running mate in 2027. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Basiru confirmed that the party has unanimously endorsed President Tinubu as its 2027 presidential candidate, but clarified that discussions about his running mate will only take place closer to the party’s convention—typically one year before the general election.
