In a letter dated March 10 and received by PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum on March 11, the NDC cited Anyanwu’s failure to appear or respond to a petition filed by the Young Generation Caucus of the party.
“After reviewing the petition and considering testimonies from Hon. Afolabi Adekanbi and Dr. Alex Adum, we conclude that Senator Samuel Anyanwu engaged in anti-party activities, violating Article 58 (1)(f) of the PDP Constitution 2017, and acted in a manner disruptive to the party’s operations,” the committee stated.
Anyanwu was also accused of instigating security operatives and political thugs to interfere in PDP activities at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja on January 29 and February 1, 2025.
NDC Pushes for Anyanwu’s Expulsion
Following its investigation, the NDC recommended that the National Executive Committee (NEC) expel Anyanwu from the party.
“The NDC formally recommends to the NEC the expulsion of Senator Samuel Anyanwu from the Peoples Democratic Party,” the letter read.
Deepening PDP Crisis
Since the 2023 presidential election, the PDP has been plagued by internal disputes, leading to allegations of anti-party activities and disciplinary actions against key members. To address these issues, the National Working Committee (NWC) set up the disciplinary committee on August 21, 2024. However, nearly five months later, the crisis has intensified, with competing claims over the PDP National Secretary position by Anyanwu and former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.
Despite Ude-Okoye’s backing from the Board of Trustees and the Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the leadership tussle remains unresolved.
Anyanwu Snubs Disciplinary Summons
The disciplinary committee had summoned Anyanwu, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, and ten others to appear before it on February 12, 2025. However, none of them honored the invitation.
