Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared the update on Thursday, revealing that the operation was based on credible intelligence about the transport of illegal arms and ammunition in the area.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Sengi David from Kopal Village in Mangu LGA, was caught around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday while attempting to smuggle the weapons. He was found with an AK-47 magazine marked for civil police use and 48 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Military authorities have confirmed that the suspect, along with the seized weapons, is in custody for further investigation. A manhunt is also underway to identify and capture other members of the gun-running syndicate.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to combatting the illegal arms trade and ensuring peace in Plateau and other regions under Operation Safe Haven.

In a related security development, forces escorting Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum successfully thwarted a Boko Haram attack along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road. According to Zagazola Makama, an unknown number of militants were killed in the clash, and seven kidnapped travelers were rescued. The convoy, which included Operation Hadin Kai troops and elite police units, was targeted by the terrorists who had attempted to abduct passengers from a Volkswagen vehicle. The governor was not in the convoy during the assault. The military also seized weapons and motorcycles following the attack.
