The Rivers State House of Assembly has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deliberately stalling the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling, particularly the directive mandating him to formally re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to lawmakers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Sunday, the Assembly urged the public to demand accountability from the governor rather than allowing him to manipulate public sentiment against the legislature.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Assembly Spokesperson, Enemi Alabo George, questioned Fubara’s claim that he had submitted the budget for reconsideration.

“Let the governor provide proof—an acknowledged copy of the letter he claims to have sent to the House regarding the budget presentation,” George stated.

The lawmakers argued that Fubara’s failure to properly re-present the budget constitutes a clear violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which requires adherence to legislative due process.

They called on Rivers State residents to insist on compliance with the rule of law, stressing that the governor’s alleged delay tactics were hindering critical governance processes.

Rather than engaging in media theatrics, the lawmakers insisted, Fubara should focus on fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities for smooth governance.

George further criticized the governor’s handling of the issue, stating:

“Last week, while on his way to Ogoni for a program, the governor stopped at the gate of the House of Assembly Quarters to grant an interview. During this, he claimed he had sent a letter to the House regarding his intention to present the budget—a claim we find astonishing, as no such letter has been received.

“His aides later alleged that the letter was sent via WhatsApp to some lawmakers, which is both unprofessional and embarrassing.

“Social media is now flooded with claims of a supposed letter from the governor expressing his intent to visit the Assembly to present the budget. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

“We categorically state that no such letter exists before the House of Assembly or any of its staff. We challenge the governor and his aides to produce an acknowledgment copy or any proof that such a letter was sent or received. These claims are entirely false and misleading, and the public should disregard them.”
