Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to criticism from Hausa musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara over his decision to spotlight Nigeria’s insecurity challenges during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The controversy began after Davido attended the event on June 10 wearing a custom-made jacket emblazoned with the message “Bring Them Home,” alongside the names of more than 40 pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.

Rarara subsequently criticised the gesture, arguing that taking such a sensitive national security issue to an international platform could harm Nigeria’s reputation and potentially undermine efforts to secure the victims’ release.

The Kano-based singer maintained that security-related matters require careful handling and questioned the rationale behind Davido’s public display. He also suggested that political considerations may have influenced the move and cautioned against politicising issues of insecurity.

According to Rarara, drawing global attention to such incidents could, in some cases, complicate rescue operations.

Davido, however, rejected the criticism and responded publicly.

He initially reacted with a brief post on X before issuing a more detailed statement in Hausa, which was later translated into English.

In his response, the award-winning singer defended his actions, insisting that Nigerians have a responsibility to speak out against insecurity rather than remain silent.

He argued that patriotism requires citizens to raise awareness about issues affecting the country and stressed that concern for the safety and welfare of Nigerians should take precedence over political affiliations or personal interests.

Davido further maintained that placing politics above the wellbeing of citizens does little to advance the nation’s progress.

He called on Nigerians to prioritise truth, national interest, and accountability while remaining committed to their civic responsibilities.

“Every Nigerian should not remain silent about the insecurity affecting the country, nor prevent others from speaking openly about it,” he said.

He added that putting personal or political interests ahead of the collective good is not something to be celebrated, urging citizens to place the country first and act with integrity and responsibility.
