Addressing journalists in his office, Agbebaku dismissed rumors of discontent among some members of the house and refuted claims of any plot to disrupt the peace within the assembly.

Explaining the budgetary adjustments, Agbebaku emphasized the parity between the offices of the governor and deputy governor. He asserted that the governor, recognizing the deputy governor’s ambitious and time-consuming gubernatorial aspirations, redistributed most of the deputy governor’s functions to other offices, exercising the governor’s prerogative to do so.

Agbebaku stated, “The deputy governor doesn’t have constitutional powers bestowed on him except that which is allocated to him by the governor. So most of those things that the deputy governor used to do, the governor has removed from him.” He highlighted the deputy governor’s acknowledgment of his reduced workload and mentioned that the governor, in his magnanimity, allowed the deputy governor to focus on his gubernatorial ambition without hindrance.

The Speaker pointed out the challenging nature of functioning effectively as a deputy governor during a year heavily dominated by electioneering activities. With nearly 11 months dedicated to election campaigns, the governor, recognizing the deputy governor’s limited capacity to perform official duties, opted to curtail his functions and, consequently, reduce the budgetary allocation.
