Spyro Opens Up On Childhood Trauma, Reveals 22-Year-Old Scar From Father’s Punishment

Nigerian singer Spyro has opened up about a painful experience from his childhood involving his father, whom he described as a pastor, and how the treatment he received affected his perception of himself while growing up.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Spyro shared the experience during an interview with Arise TV broadcaster Rufai Oseni, where he recalled being accused of stealing whenever money went missing in church.

The singer said the accusations often happened publicly, with his father allegedly telling people that he was a thief before the missing money was eventually found elsewhere. Spyro explained that the repeated incidents left him embarrassed and emotionally affected.

He also recalled an occasion when he reported an incident involving a school cleaner who he claimed had scratched his head with her long nails. According to the singer, rather than believing his account, his father accused him of lying and punished him.

Reflecting on his childhood, Spyro said one particular punishment left a physical mark on his back that he claimed remained more than two decades later. He explained that the experience was particularly painful because he believed he had told his father the truth but still suffered punishment for something he said he did not do.

The singer said the repeated accusations eventually affected the way he viewed himself, making him feel that if his father already considered him a bad child, there was little reason to behave differently.

Spyro, however, credited his mother’s love and support for helping him cope with the difficult experiences. He said her presence provided an important balance during his childhood and helped him navigate the challenges he faced at home.

His revelation offers insight into how experiences during childhood can influence a person’s self-perception and emotional development long after the events have occurred.
