In a statement on Thursday, Jonathan made it clear he has no Instagram presence, urging Nigerians to ignore the fraudulent profile.
According to his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, the fake account — operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan — has been posting misleading content, some of which was copied directly from Jonathan’s verified Facebook page.
Titled “Beware of Fake Instagram Account Impersonating H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”, the statement warned that the profile is a complete fraud.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake Instagram account operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan which is impersonating Dr. Jonathan,” it read. “We emphasise that Dr. Jonathan has no Instagram account. The media and the public should avoid interacting with or sharing any content from this fraudulent page.”
Meanwhile, in a separate development, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, defended Jonathan’s long absence from the party, citing the political climate at the time.
Speaking to Punch, Osadolor argued that senior figures within the PDP had openly and secretly conspired against the former president, which might have influenced his decision to step back.
While admitting Jonathan “shirked certain responsibilities,” Osadolor insisted he still deserves full honours, saying, “We’ve forgiven worse in the past. Jonathan remains a respected former president, and his dues must be given to him.”
He urged the PDP to unite, welcome all potential allies — including Peter Obi — and leverage every goodwill to reclaim national prominence.
Osadolor also alleged that some party members, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, are supporting Jonathan’s potential candidacy, believing he would be easier to sell to voters.
