Stuck In Nigeria’: May D Opens Up About Divorce And Cultural Clashes In Swedish Marriage
Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has shared details about his secret marriage to a Swedish woman and the events leading to their divorce.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the Soundtrack crooner revealed that after relocating to Sweden, he became a “house husband,” taking care of their child while his wife worked. However, their marriage ended during the COVID-19 lockdown when he was unable to return to Sweden from Nigeria.
May D explained that although he stayed home to care for their child, he earned significantly more than his working wife through performances.
“I went to Sweden for a show and decided to settle there because my girlfriend was Swedish. I became a house husband. What do you want me to do—get a regular job? My wife was working, but when I performed at shows, I made five times her monthly salary. I was comfortable being at home. My wife couldn’t work and take care of the baby at the same time,” he said.
On the reason for their divorce, he stated, “We got divorced during COVID-19 because I got stuck in Nigeria. That’s how she divorced me. Their way of thinking is different from ours.”
May D’s candid revelation has sparked discussions about cultural differences and the challenges of cross-cultural marriages.
