Super Eagles Boost! Terem Moffi Scores First Hamburg Goal After Injury Setbacks

Published

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has opened his Bundesliga scoring account for Hamburg SV, netting a crucial equaliser in the club’s 3-2 comeback victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday, October 10.

The Nigerian forward came off the bench and headed home an 83rd-minute goal from a cross delivered by Miro Muheim, bringing Hamburg level at 2-2 before his teammates completed the dramatic comeback to secure all three points.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the goal represents an important milestone for Moffi, whose start to life in Germany has been affected by injury problems that disrupted his preparations and delayed his return to full match fitness.

Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin had confirmed before the encounter that Moffi and fellow forward Yussuf Poulsen were available for selection after returning to full training with the squad.

“Both have trained fully with the team today, and are definitely options for the squad,” Polzin said during his pre-match press conference, according to reports by Kicker.

Moffi had made a brief appearance in Hamburg’s previous league fixture, a 2-1 victory over FC Köln, as he continued rebuilding his fitness. However, he had not scored for the German side since arriving from French club Nice earlier in the summer.

The 27-year-old reportedly joined Hamburg in a deal worth approximately €2.5 million after his relationship with Nice deteriorated following an initially promising spell at the French club.

His preparations for the new season were hampered by fitness setbacks, which caused him to miss pre-season activities. He also reportedly missed a friendly against Copenhagen during the international break because of an injury.

The difficulties affected his availability for Nigeria, as the striker missed the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

His latest contribution will offer encouragement to Hamburg as the forward seeks to establish himself in the Bundesliga and regain consistent playing time after his interrupted start to the campaign.

For Nigeria, Moffi’s return to scoring form could also provide a boost as the Super Eagles continue preparing for upcoming international assignments.
