Super Falcons Demand Justice! Gusau Reacts To Explosive Unpaid Allowance Claims

Ahead of the match, renowned UK-based Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana reignited a long-standing controversy surrounding unpaid allowances owed to the players by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to Obayiuwana, players are still owed varying amounts—between $300 and $1,500 each, depending on their participation in different fixtures. One of the unresolved issues includes a ₦10,000 camp allowance per player from a 2022 WAFCON qualifier against Ivory Coast.
Furthermore, the players’ bonuses and camp allowances from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand remain unpaid.
These grievances are not new. During the 2023 World Cup, the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) publicly called out the NFF for failing to meet its financial responsibilities to the squad.
The NFF initially dismissed the criticism as “a storm in a teacup” but later promised to resolve all outstanding payments.
As the Super Falcons aim for their 10th continental title, these unresolved financial matters have resurfaced, drawing fresh attention.
Obayiuwana disclosed via social media that NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, who met him in Casablanca, expressed a desire to address the issue directly.
Meanwhile, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi refused to comment on the matter, stating, “This is a matter between the NFF and the players.”
According to reports by Punch, Gusau defended Sanusi’s silence, saying it was due to internal protocol. “Sanusi is an employee who acts under instructions. If you need answers, speak to me,” Gusau reportedly told Obayiuwana.
As the Super Falcons prepare to face Botswana on Thursday, concerns over the NFF’s treatment of players continue to cast a shadow over their campaign. Fans now await an official statement from Gusau to clarify the federation’s position.
