TCN Raises Alarm Over Surge In Vandalism Of Power Transmission AssetsThe Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has expressed serious concern over the escalating incidents of vandalism targeting its transmission lines and towers, warning that these attacks are significantly disrupting the national power grid and critical infrastructure.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the company detailed an early Saturday morning attack on the 330kV Lokoja-Gwagwalada transmission line I.
According to the report, TCN engineers attempted to restore power to the line but encountered issues when the line tripped. Subsequent efforts to reconnect the line also failed, prompting the dispatch of a TCN patrol team to investigate the cause.
Upon inspection, the team discovered that transmission towers T306, T307, and T308 along the line had been vandalized, which caused a disruption in bulk power transmission. Additionally, two spans of aluminum conductors were stolen by the vandals.
While TCN continues to supply power via the second line, efforts are now underway to replace the stolen conductors. The company also confirmed that the Lokoja-Gwagwalada line is a double-circuit transmission line, allowing for continued power distribution, but the theft has caused a significant setback to maintenance and infrastructure reliability.
TCN emphasized that this incident is part of a growing and troubling trend of vandalism affecting power transmission networks across the country. The company expressed concern that these attacks are not only jeopardizing the stability of the national grid but are also hindering the expansion of the country’s power infrastructure.
This latest vandalism has further underscored the urgent need for stronger security measures to protect vital energy infrastructure, as the industry continues to grapple with this escalating issue.
