The incident reportedly occurred on Friday when Igbokwe visited the market to purchase spare parts for his vehicle.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, he said he was identified by some traders while searching for the items, which led to commotion within the market.
According to him, after completing his purchase and returning to his vehicle, a crowd began to gather around him.
The situation reportedly escalated as more youths joined the gathering and moved closer to his location, raising tension within the market.
Fearing the situation could spiral out of control, Igbokwe said he took refuge in a friend’s shop inside the market while efforts were made to restore calm.
He explained that market leaders were contacted and later intervened to de-escalate the situation before escorting him to safety.
The APC chieftain said that after the intervention, he eventually came out and saw a large crowd still gathered, with people expressing mixed reactions.
He added that he chose not to engage with the crowd and quietly left the market in his vehicle.
“I went to Ladipo Market to get some spare parts for my vehicle. While looking for the parts, some people started calling my name and pointing fingers at me. I ignored them and continued searching,” he said.
“After getting the parts and returning to my vehicle, the Ladipo boys started gathering and shouting, ‘This is Igbokwe.’ I ignored them at first, but they kept coming, so I moved to my friend’s shop.
“My friend contacted the market leadership and when I came out, people gathered and were saying different things, but I did not respond and simply drove away. I later saw reports on Facebook claiming that I was beaten, but I was not beaten. I pray it does not happen again.”
