Five Suspected Criminals Fall Into Army Net During Taraba Operation

The troops, operating from the Forward Operating Base in Karim Lamido, reportedly acted on a distress call regarding an attack on nearby communities by suspected armed elements.
According to a statement by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the soldiers swiftly mobilised to the scene after receiving the alert.
On arrival, the troops were reportedly engaged by unidentified gunmen, who opened fire on them.
The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in different directions, the statement said.
Muhammad added that the troops subsequently pursued the fleeing suspects and apprehended five individuals believed to be linked to the attack.
“The troops immediately mobilised and moved to the scene. Upon arrival, they came under fire from unidentified gunmen and responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the assailants to flee in different directions,” the statement read.
Following the encounter, the troops recovered several items from the suspects, including two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, assorted charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been taken into custody for further investigation.
The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to curb armed attacks, banditry, and other criminal activities in Taraba State and surrounding areas.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism, courage, and gallantry during the operation.
He said the success of the mission reflected the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and protecting lives in affected communities.
Akaliro reiterated the directive of the Chief of Army Staff that troops must remain vigilant and sustain pressure on criminal elements operating within their areas of responsibility.
He urged personnel to continue denying criminals freedom of action while ensuring the protection of communities against further attacks.
The brigade commander also assured residents of Taraba State of the Army’s continued efforts to track down criminal elements wherever they may be hiding.
He added that the 6 Brigade remains committed to sustained operations until lasting peace is restored across the state.
Akaliro further called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance rapid response to threats and prevent future attacks.
