Fayose made this declaration on Monday, June 9, 2025, while addressing journalists after a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

While acknowledging the internal crisis currently plaguing the PDP, Fayose emphasized his loyalty to the party, stating that despite its challenges, he remains committed to it.

His comments came in response to questions about the recent wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Fayose maintained that while others are free to make their political choices, he would not follow suit.

“Let me be clear—Ayo Fayose will not leave the PDP for any political party, not even the APC. I’m 65 years old this year. Those who have chosen to defect have their reasons—some say they admire what the president is doing, others believe the PDP is in serious trouble, and truthfully, it is. If urgent action isn’t taken, the party risks becoming a carcass,” he said.

When asked what efforts are being made to revive the PDP, Fayose explained that he no longer plays an active role in the party’s frontline leadership.

Despite his political stance, Fayose praised President Tinubu, stating that he has supported him even during his own time as a sitting PDP governor. He lauded the president’s reform initiatives, noting that there are visible signs of progress.

“My visit was personal—to encourage him to keep pushing forward for Nigerians. No one expects a miracle overnight, but we must give credit for the steps he has taken so far,” he added.
