The meeting, organised to welcome new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC), stirred curiosity over Oborevwori’s absence, especially following his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
Oborevwori, who had secured victory in the 2023 elections under the PDP, recently switched allegiance to the APC, citing various reasons for his decision.
Despite his recent entry into the party, he was missing from the PGF event, which saw the attendance of several top APC figures.
His defection, along with that of his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa and the entire PDP structure in Delta State, significantly altered the political dynamics of the region.
They announced a merger of their political machinery with the APC, highlighting the party as a stronger platform for advancing Delta State’s development.
In a joint statement, the defectors pointed to the APC’s organizational strength as a major reason for their decision, signaling a potential realignment in South-South politics.
Although Oborevwori was absent, the meeting was graced by influential APC members including Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, APC National Secretary Felix Morka, and ex-governorship candidate Great Ogboru.
Several National Assembly members were also present, underlining the APC’s expanding reach in the region.
Political observers say the wave of defections, particularly that of former PDP vice-presidential candidate Okowa, delivers a major blow to the PDP’s chances in the 2027 elections.
