Tensions Escalate As PDP Factions Clash Over Rivers State Leadership

The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified as Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum denied claims that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) endorsed a recent court ruling regarding the Rivers State Executives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This denial contradicts an earlier statement by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who announced that the NWC had accepted the January 13, 2025, Rivers State High Court ruling. The judgment had recognized Nname Robinson Ewor’s faction, aligned with Governor Sim Fubara, as the legitimate PDP leadership in the state, while restraining Aaron Chukwuemeka’s Wike-aligned group from functioning as the Rivers State PDP executives.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi refuted Ologunagba’s statement, describing it as false and self-serving. Abdullahi stated, “The NWC has not met since September last year. It is false to claim the committee accepted the judgment. Ologunagba’s statement was not authorized and reflects personal interests rather than the party’s position.”
Abdullahi further accused Ologunagba of issuing unauthorized statements on court judgments in Imo and Ebonyi States, stressing that the National Publicity Secretary lacks the authority to speak for the NWC without prior approval. “A National Publicity Secretary must adhere to protocol and cannot act independently. His recent actions have shown disregard for proper procedures, which is unbecoming of someone in his position,” Abdullahi said.
The latest development underscores deepening divisions within the PDP, with party leaders calling for restraint and adherence to due process.
