According to SaharaReporters, the attack took place on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, though the exact number of victims and their identities remain unconfirmed at the time of reporting.
Residents revealed that security agencies had been alerted, and people in surrounding communities were urged to exercise extreme caution, limit unnecessary movement, and promptly report any suspicious activity to authorities.
The latest incident comes just a day after tension in Odo-Ere community in the same local government area, following a coordinated attack by armed assailants on Sunday night. During that earlier raid, at least four residents were reportedly abducted, identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman known locally as Iya Lara.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, believed to be heavily armed, moved house to house late at night, firing sporadically and causing widespread panic. Residents described the assault as chaotic and terrifying, with gunfire echoing throughout the community for several minutes.
A community platform, Egbe Mekun, reported that another apartment was targeted, showing visible gunshot marks, though the assailants were unable to gain entry. While four abductees have been identified, locals fear the number could be higher.
Following the attacks, residents of Odo-Ere and neighboring communities have called on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to deploy additional personnel, secure the release of the kidnapped individuals, and prevent further incidents.
Odo-Ere and other settlements in Yagba West have recently experienced repeated attacks by armed groups, highlighting the growing insecurity and vulnerability of rural communities in Kogi State.
These events are part of a broader wave of abductions across the state. On Sunday, SaharaReporters reported that a pastor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) was kidnapped while traveling to his farm in Okoro Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area, but was later released unharmed after several days in captivity. He was reportedly abandoned in Aiyetoro Gbedde without any ransom paid, according to Egbe Mekun.
Residents across affected areas continue to express fear and frustration, urging the authorities to take urgent and decisive action to curb the rising tide of kidnappings in the state.
