Terrorists Strike Troops, Resulting In Three Soldier DeathsThree soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack on troops participating in Operation Hadin Kai in Kukawa town, located in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack, which occurred on November 25, 2024, was launched by terrorists using gun trucks and motorcycles. In response, the Nigerian Army’s 101 Special Forces Battalion, supported by the Air Component and the Nigerian Army’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command, mounted a determined defense. The soldiers’ overwhelming firepower forced the terrorists to retreat in disarray, leaving behind significant casualties. During the clash, 12 terrorists were neutralized, and several others fled with gunshot wounds. The army recovered a substantial cache of weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, an RPG bomb, two Anti-Aircraft guns, one NSV heavy machine gun, 40 motorcycles, and 152 rounds of Shilka ammunition, among other items. Four out of seven VBIEDs deployed by the terrorists were also destroyed.

Despite the success of the operation, three soldiers tragically lost their lives during the attack. Ongoing efforts to clear the area include house-to-house searches to ensure the safety and security of the community.

The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised the bravery of the troops and urged them to maintain the momentum in their clearance operations and patrols. He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to eliminate the remaining terrorist elements in the Northeast, ensuring a secure environment for the restoration of socio-economic activities in the region.
