Okpebholo made the commitment during a recent visit to his counterpart in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
In his discussions with the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Okpebholo stressed the importance of fostering healthy competition among state governors to address the nation’s developmental challenges. He emphasized the need for governors to conduct working visits to other states to exchange ideas and observe the progress being made elsewhere.
Okpebholo pointed out that the goal is not only to replicate successful initiatives but to surpass them within their own states. He argued that such exchanges could spark constructive competition, driving significant national development for the benefit of the people.
“Too often, when you’re in your own state, it’s easy to believe you’re doing well, especially when little progress is made, and people praise small achievements. But visiting other states and witnessing the massive infrastructure and coordination on display helps you see governance from a new perspective,” the Edo Governor remarked.
He continued: “My mission is to bring massive development to Edo so that when I leave office, the state will stand as one of the fastest-developing regions in Africa. When I visit other states, I observe closely, learning from their successes and aiming to bring similar models to Edo.”
Governor Okpebholo also praised Senator Uzodinma for the remarkable development strides made in Imo State. He noted that the transformation in just a few years is so significant that the state is almost unrecognizable, and such progress should be emulated by other states.
He acknowledged Uzodinma as a model representative of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, whose reforms embody the forum’s principles and values. Okpebholo expressed his determination not only to replicate Uzodinma’s achievements in Edo but also to set new standards for development that will serve as a benchmark for others.
“I am truly impressed with what I have seen here. It’s beautiful and inspiring. When you visited Edo a few months ago for the APC governorship primaries, you saw the state’s condition. I assure you that when you return, you will hardly recognize it, as massive development will have taken place,” Okpebholo said.
“I have a clear plan, and I’ve carefully assessed the state. I came fully prepared to create lasting, positive change. That’s why we’ve hit the ground running from day one. In just one month, we’ve already made significant strides, and the people of Edo can see the direction we’re heading.”
He added: “I want to thank you for your work in Imo and for inspiring other governors, particularly those of us in the Progressives Governors’ Forum. Your achievements challenge us all, and I’ve accepted that challenge. This healthy competition will lead to growth for our people.”
Senator Uzodinma, in turn, expressed his appreciation for Governor Okpebholo’s visit, emphasizing the importance of such exchanges in fostering collaboration and enhancing governance. He encouraged Okpebholo to continue serving as an exemplary representative of the Progressives Governors’ Forum by focusing on transformative development for Edo’s citizens.
Uzodinma expressed his hope that, during his next visit to Edo, he would witness a modern, developed state transformed by Okpebholo’s leadership.
