In a statement issued on Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed Folawiyo’s arrest, noting that he is under investigation for the alleged misappropriation of public funds, diversion of council resources for personal use, and flouting of official protocols.
According to the statement, Folawiyo was apprehended at the council secretariat located at 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after repeatedly failing to honor ICPC invitations—invitations he had previously acknowledged.
“He is currently in our custody. He was arrested by a team from the ICPC headquarters for the above-stated infractions. However, he has been granted administrative bail and is expected to report back today as the investigation continues,” Bakare added.
In a separate development, the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has withdrawn its lawsuit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and elected local government chairmen involved in the disputed October 15, 2022 council elections.
This move was formally communicated to the Osun State High Court in Ilesa via a notice of discontinuance dated June 25, 2025, and signed by Musbau Adetunbi (SAN), legal counsel for the claimant. The notice was also served to Fatima Raji, representing the APC.
The prolonged political standoff between the PDP-led Osun State Government and the APC had paralyzed local governance, with federal allocations to the councils reportedly frozen since February. Additionally, NULGE members had staged a work boycott, protesting the occupation of council offices by APC-backed officials.
As part of the earlier litigation, suit number HIK/5/2025, the APC, its elected chairmen, and multiple security agencies—including the Inspector General of Police, Osun State Police Commissioner, DSS Director-General, and NSCDC Commandant-General—were listed as defendants. The Governor of Osun State and the State Attorney General were also named in the case.
