Ticking Clock: NANS Dares Ondo Government With 72-Hour Ultimatum For Activist Release
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, NANS condemned what it described as a calculated attempt to silence student voices. The association called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene and restore justice.
NANS vowed to uphold its mission of defending the rights of students, warning that failure to meet its demand within the given timeframe would spark a nationwide protest, beginning with #OccupyOndoGovernmentHouse.
“This is not a threat but a firm declaration,” the statement read. “Nigerian students will not remain silent while their peers are punished for standing up for better governance. An injury to one is an injury to all.”
Expressing outrage over the incident, NANS described the actions of the Attorney General as hypocritical and oppressive.
“It is disheartening to see Barr. Ajulo, who has long portrayed himself as a defender of human rights and democracy, now misusing his office to suppress civil liberties,” the statement continued. “Weaponizing state power against young activists who have committed no offense beyond voicing concerns is disgraceful, undemocratic, and unacceptable.”
NANS warned that such actions represent a dangerous precedent, threatening freedom of speech and democratic values not only in Ondo State but across Nigeria.
