Tinubu Backs Wike’s Rainbow Coalition? APC Chieftain Makes Explosive Revelation
A national leader of the All Progressives Congress has claimed that President Bola Tinubu supports the Rainbow Coalition being promoted by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing the platform as an avenue for aggrieved APC members to remain aligned with the President ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the APC chieftain, who spoke anonymously to Punch, said Wike’s cross-party mobilisation was attracting politicians who were dissatisfied with developments within the ruling party, particularly following its nomination and primary processes.
The claim comes amid growing disagreement between Wike and APC governors over the Rainbow Coalition. The Progressive Governors Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, has opposed political arrangements that could weaken the APC or affect its candidates, while Wike has maintained that his coalition is focused on mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The unnamed APC leader alleged that some party members who might otherwise move to the African Democratic Congress were instead gravitating towards Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, where, according to the source, they could receive political recognition while continuing to support Tinubu’s presidential bid.
He further described Wike’s Rainbow Coalition as an extension of the political effort to secure Tinubu’s return to office, although this characterization was made by the unnamed source and does not represent a formal position announced by the APC or the Presidency.
The chieftain also claimed that Wike had earned the support of several APC figures through his political activities and projects in the Federal Capital Territory. He suggested that the coalition could influence political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Another APC official, who also spoke anonymously, said the President’s re-election remained the party’s primary concern. The official argued that some politicians who felt dissatisfied after the APC’s internal processes could support Tinubu’s presidential bid without necessarily supporting APC candidates in other contests.
The official described Wike as an important mobiliser for Tinubu’s re-election and argued that APC governors should have handled disagreements arising from the party’s nomination processes more effectively.
Wike has publicly confirmed that he is mobilising support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election through the Rainbow Coalition. However, he has rejected the suggestion that the coalition is affiliated with the APC, saying it is a multi-party platform designed to support Tinubu while political parties remain free to field candidates in other elections.
Wike has also said that President Tinubu is aware of his political activities and the coalition, while insisting that his support is specifically for the President’s re-election rather than for the APC as a political party.
