Real Madrid Crush Racing Santander 3-0 As Two Controversial Penalty Decisions Spark Debate

Real Madrid extended their impressive winning streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over Racing Santander at El Sardinero, although controversial penalty decisions became major talking points during the encounter.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the victory marked Madrid’s sixth consecutive win, strengthening their position in third place and moving them within three points of La Liga leaders Barcelona, who had earlier recorded a 6-1 victory over Alavés.

Madrid delivered an impressive performance in the first half, scoring all three goals before the interval, but their attacking intensity reduced considerably after the restart.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 11th minute after going down inside the penalty area following a challenge from Prati. Despite protests from Racing Santander players, the referee awarded a penalty, which the French forward confidently converted with a powerful low shot beyond goalkeeper Aguirrezabala.

Racing nearly responded immediately, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced an excellent save to deny Iker Luque just two minutes later.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute through Jude Bellingham, who finished off a well-coordinated attacking move involving Mbappé and Arda Güler.

Madrid secured their third goal in the 36th minute after Racing failed to clear a corner delivered by Güler. Yan Diomande collected the loose ball outside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful effort into the top corner.

The home side also suffered an injury setback during the first half, with Álvaro Mantilla forced to leave the pitch.

Following the restart, Real Madrid maintained control of the contest but showed less urgency in attack, giving Racing opportunities to threaten. Zabiri tested the visitors with a low effort in the 54th minute, while Mbappé came close to adding another goal six minutes later, only for his attempt to strike the left post. Diomande also had an opportunity to increase the lead but failed to convert.

The encounter produced another major refereeing controversy in the 75th minute when the referee initially awarded Racing a penalty after the ball appeared to strike Aurélien Tchouaméni’s hand inside the box.

However, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the incident and recommended an overturn after replays showed that the ball had made contact with the midfielder’s foot before reaching his hand.

Madrid manager José Mourinho later introduced Díaz, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick as the game entered its closing stages, but neither team managed to score again.

The result extended Madrid’s winning run and kept them within touching distance of Barcelona in the La Liga title race.
