President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to return seized food items from border communities to their rightful owners, stipulating that the goods must be sold within Nigerian markets.
The Controller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, made this announcement in Katsina on Saturday during a meeting with residents from border areas at Kongolam and Mai’Adua border stations.
Adeniyi highlighted that Tinubu’s decision transcends legal guidelines and is rooted in his profound generosity towards Nigeria. He emphasized that the directive includes the return of food items, initially destined for export, seized across various border regions. These items are to be handed back to their owners, under the condition that they are sold exclusively within Nigerian markets.
He added, “We will be monitoring you to ensure compliance. The directive is clear – the returned food items are to re-enter the Nigerian markets.
