Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Sports and Youth Development and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already begun campaigning for re-election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking in Jos on Monday during an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Dalung—who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari—also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating plans to undermine the ADC.

Dalung stressed that ADC leaders are not driven by personal ambition or a desire for power, but rather by a genuine commitment to rescue Nigeria from what he described as the failings of the current APC-led government.

According to him, no ADC member has formally declared a presidential ambition, although many are well-qualified. He emphasized that they are law-abiding citizens who respect the nation’s electoral laws.

“To the best of my knowledge, none of them has publicly declared interest in the presidency. If anyone intends to run, they are expected to organize a press conference to notify Nigerians, and that hasn’t happened,” Dalung said.

“Even if someone had declared, it would still be late. President Tinubu has been actively campaigning for two years. In his first year in office, he unveiled 2027 campaign billboards, and in the second, he triggered a wave of defections, turning official events into political rallies. While the opposition is only just beginning, Tinubu has been on the campaign trail. Those now declaring should be seen as patriots—meanwhile, this government has lost focus.”

Dalung argued that aspiring to transform Nigeria for the better is a noble ambition—only ambitions rooted in selfishness are problematic.

“These are patriotic Nigerians. While some have served as governors, they’ve never held the presidency. Their track records in their states should be the yardstick, not past titles. Some have delivered impressively and deserve to be judged by their achievements.”

He concluded by saying that the ADC will present a presidential candidate capable of meeting Nigerians’ expectations, dismissing APC’s criticisms as a desperate distraction.

“We’re not moved by APC’s propaganda. They’re trying to discredit others while standing on the ruins of their own colossal failures. Our candidates have tangible achievements to offer the Nigerian people.”
