Confirming the development on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, told Punch that Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

“In response to the clash, the CP, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has constituted a panel to look into the matter,” Haruna said via a WhatsApp message.

Although full details remain unclear, the clash reportedly occurred on Sunday as Emir Bayero’s convoy attempted to navigate through the Kofar-Kudu axis, traveling from his Mandawari residence to the Nassarawa mini-palace.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the convoy met stiff resistance from individuals believed to be supporters of Emir Sanusi, leading to property damage and injuries to palace guards.

A local resident recounted that suspected hoodlums vandalized the main gate of the Gidan Rumfa Palace, attacked palace guards, and smashed police patrol vehicles.

“The swift intervention of the police prevented the situation from escalating into a full-blown bloodbath,” the eyewitness added, noting that officers had to deploy tear gas to disperse the clashing factions.

This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing power tussle triggered by the Kano State Government’s decision in May 2024 to depose Emir Bayero and reinstall Emir Sanusi II.

Since then, the two traditional rulers have operated from separate palaces—Sanusi from the Gidan Rumfa main palace and Bayero from the Nassarawa mini-palace—amid persistent legal disputes and mounting political tension.
