Tinubu Presents GCON Title To Awujale Of Ijebuland

President Bola Tinubu has bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of Nigeria (GCON), the country’s second-highest national honor, upon Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The announcement came during the celebration of the traditional ruler’s 90th birthday at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, on Friday.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the President at the event, highlighted that the award acknowledges the immeasurable and invaluable contributions of the monarch to national development. Additionally, it was revealed that the management of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, established by the royal father, will be taken over by the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

President Tinubu, in a birthday message to the traditional ruler, praised him as a symbol of honor and dignity. He lauded Oba Adetona’s steadfastness during Nigeria’s turbulent times, emphasizing his courage in advocating for the people even in challenging circumstances.
