President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive to the Nigerian Armed Forces, urging them to intensify efforts in combating terrorists and kidnappers that pose a threat to the nation. Expressing concern over the rising incidents of terrorist attacks and kidnapping-for-ransom, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged the military’s role in achieving “relative peace” in major flashpoints. However, he stressed that the war against the enemy is not concluded until every inch of Nigerian territory is under the flag of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu conveyed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of servicemen and women. He cautioned against actions detrimental to national interests and the democratic gains achieved over the past two decades, urging the armed forces to uphold their constitutional duty of safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces in the face of formidable challenges, Tinubu assured that his government would prioritize their needs to enable them to fulfill their constitutional role effectively. The President also commended the Nigerian Defence Academy for its contributions to national security, highlighting a robust curriculum approved by the National Universities Commission to equip cadets with essential knowledge, skills, values, character, and discipline.
Tinubu further noted the NDA’s achievements, including the establishment of postgraduate programs, research centers, and centers of excellence aimed at fostering research and facilitating the exchange of ideas. He attributed the institution’s consistent academic calendar to its avoidance of periodic industrial disputes and strikes, advocating for the NDA’s postgraduate school to be the preferred choice for students and scholars globally.
