Tinubu Speaks After Osun Poll, Congratulates Adeleke And Confirms Phone Call
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the recently concluded governorship election.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Adeleke’s re-election as a strong indication that democracy would continue to thrive in Nigeria under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, August 16, 2026, declared Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun governorship election.
Adeleke secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, won in 11 LGAs.
The final results showed Adeleke polling 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
In a statement released on Sunday morning, Tinubu disclosed that he had personally spoken with Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land.”
Tinubu also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for what he described as the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election.
According to the President, the process produced a clear winner and further demonstrated the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic system.
