The restructuring, announced after the Federal Executive Council’s 19th meeting, aims to enhance administrative efficiency and fulfill the government’s commitments to Nigerians. Among those dismissed were the Ministers of Women Affairs, Tourism, Education, Youth Development, and Housing and Urban Development.

The reshuffled cabinet includes several notable changes: Dr. Yusuf Sununu moves to the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, and Abubakar Momoh transitions to oversee the newly established Regional Development ministry, which will coordinate various regional development commissions.

Tinubu also urged newly appointed ministers to view their roles as a call to service, emphasizing the administration’s determination to drive Nigeria toward growth. Meanwhile, the recent changes have sparked criticism from opposition parties, who argue that the reshuffle is merely a distraction from the government’s ongoing challenges, including economic instability and security concerns.

The reorganization follows earlier statements from the presidency about performance reviews influencing cabinet decisions, aiming for accountability among ministers. The new appointments are pending approval by the National Assembly, with all transitions set to be completed by the end of October 2024.
