Omotayo urged Nigerians to refrain from criticizing the President over the fuel subsidy removal, emphasizing that it was a necessary step for national development.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday, Omotayo addressed a diverse audience that included market women, youth groups, labor leaders, farmers, traditional rulers, government officials, and students.
She highlighted that Tinubu is financially secure enough to avoid the rigors of political leadership, but his deep commitment to bringing renewed hope to Nigerians inspired him to lead the nation.
Omotayo stressed that the funds saved from the subsidy removal have been distributed among all states, and the President has already increased workers’ salaries, with further increments promised during his tenure.
She praised Tinubu for his inclusive governance approach, noting her presence in Plateau State—a stronghold of the opposition PDP—as proof of his willingness to engage all Nigerians.
“I don’t think it’s fair to keep criticizing Mr. President, who is working hard to ensure the dividends of democracy reach every state,” she said. “If he were a partisan leader, I wouldn’t be here in Plateau State, a PDP stronghold. But I’m here representing him because he wants everyone included. The elections are over; now it’s time to carry all good Nigerians along.”
“Yes, Mr. President removed the fuel subsidy, but the benefits are being shared across all states. When was the last time any president increased workers’ salaries? Mr. President deserves some appreciation. He’s been in office for less than a year and has already increased wages, promising more adjustments during his tenure.”
Omotayo also highlighted Tinubu’s student loan initiative, which offers interest-free loans without collateral to students nationwide.
“Students are demanding free education, and Mr. President has introduced free loans for them, accessible to all regions. Spread the word—there’s a student loan you don’t need collateral for, and repayment starts two years after securing a job. It’s not out of your pocket; it will be deducted from your salary,” she explained.
