The assault resulted in the deaths of two police officers and the rustling of over 200 cows.

Kebbi Police Command Spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday from Birnin Kebbi.

According to Abubakar, “On January 3, at around 1:00 AM, armed hoodlums believed to be Lakurawa bandits, riding motorcycles, raided Alhaji Lawal Black Farm and nearby Fulani settlements in Natseni village, along the Argungu/Kangiwa road, where they rustled an undisclosed number of cows.”

Upon receiving the report, a team from the Police Safer Highway patrol immediately responded to the scene. They engaged the bandits in a gunfight, chased them into the forest, and managed to recover some of the stolen cattle. However, the encounter tragically led to the death of two police officers.

Abubakar further noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the attack and offered prayers for the departed officers, asking for strength for their families. The CP also conducted an on-site visit to the location and subsequently paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu-Mera, where he briefed him on the ongoing efforts of security agencies to tackle crime in the region.
