Sources cited by Daily Trust revealed that the attacks targeted both the Ikpelle and Egwuma communities in the rural riverine region of Agatu. Locals have noted that those displaced by the violence are predominantly farmers and fishermen from the affected areas.

Joseph Adakole, a resident of the community, expressed grave concern, warning that without immediate action from security forces, their villages could face complete destruction.

The Chairman of Agatu, Melvin Ejeh, shared his sorrow over the incident in a conversation with journalists in Makurdi. He stated, ā€œI have just been informed of an attack on the Egwuma community in the Ogwule Ogbaulu Ward, which resulted in the burning of several houses and the looting of livestock and properties worth millions of naira by suspected cattle rustlers. I sympathize with the people of Egwuma and surrounding areas, and I urge calm as we work tirelessly to find a lasting solution to this long-standing crisis. We have requested the immediate deployment of security personnel to the area to restore peace, and we are also developing a long-term plan that will be implemented soon.

ā€œMy administration is committed to prioritizing the rebuilding of communities and ensuring the safe return of every Agatu citizen to their homes. Agatu is our home, and no one should have to live as a displaced person in their ancestral land.ā€

As of now, the state police command has not issued any official statement regarding these events.
