A customs officer was tragically killed by passengers of a truck along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at Gamjin Makaho village, along Dankama road.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the Customs officers had signaled the truck driver, who was transporting people to Dankama town, to stop, but he disregarded their instructions. In the ensuing confrontation, one of the armed customs officers reportedly discharged their weapon, injuring one of the passengers.
Following the halt of the truck, passengers disembarked and engaged in a physical altercation with the customs officers, resulting in the fatal assault on one of them. The identity and rank of the deceased officer remain undisclosed at the time of this report.
The victim, identified as Bashir Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old from Doro town in Bindawa LGA, residing at Zanguna in Katsina city, also succumbed to his injuries sustained from the gunshot wound.
The Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, SC Tahir Balarabe, confirmed the incident, stating that the Service would issue an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts are underway to evacuate the remains of the deceased officer.
