As reported earlier, the family fell victim to the bandits in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory on the night of January 2, 2024. The father was released by the abductors with the task of securing a ransom for the release of his children. In a tragic turn of events, Alhaji Abdulfatai, the father’s brother who led police efforts to thwart the abduction, lost his life in a confrontation with the bandits.
The family received a grim demand for a ransom of N60 million, with each girl’s release priced at N10 million before Friday, January 12. Regrettably, the family could not raise the funds in time, leading to the assailants reportedly killing Najeebah, the eldest of the six sisters. Her lifeless body was discarded, leaving her parents with the heartbreaking responsibility of laying her to rest.
The news of Najeebah’s demise has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with many Nigerians expressing their condolences.
Former Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, confirmed Najeebah’s death on Saturday night. He extended his sympathies and prayers for the remaining kidnapped girls, urging Allah’s forgiveness and the restoration of peace to Nigeria.
“Inna lil Laahi wa inna ilaiHi Raajiun! I just read about the killing of our daughter Najeeba (400 level, ABU). I also spoke with her father about the remaining 5 of our kidnapped daughters. May Allah forgive her, rescue others & bring absolute peace to Nigeria,” Pantami shared on his social media handle.
Previously, Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, called on the police to take swift action, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. He urged the Nigeria Police to prioritize the case, mobilize all necessary resources, and work towards the safe rescue of the remaining victims. #NajeebahAndHerSisters
Reacting to the development, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says the police has intensified efforts to rescue the victims. The statement reads;
‘’In the wake of the abduction of six young girls in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, it is vital to state that the Police Force has already initiated a comprehensive plan of action. The Force Headquarters is diligently coordinating efforts to address this and prevent any further occurence, as all hands are on deck to rescue the victims.
However, the sensitivity of the situation necessitates discretion, and as a result, specific details are being kept confidential to avoid compromising ongoing operations.
The NPF is actively engaging and contacting individuals crucial to the rescue operations and investigation. The objective is not only to bring perpetrators to justice but also to intensify efforts in rescue operations for victims still in captivity.
Furthermore, recognizing the psychological impact on affected families, the Police are encouraging open communication with their operatives to provide support, information, and assistance to mitigate the psychological warfare imposed by kidnappers on the relatives and loved ones of their victims.

Arewa Twitter: “The DSS in Nigeria can easily trace & arrest innocent citizens even if you hide inside a cave, but funny enough they can’t track down bandits & kidnappers that uses phone to communicate every time. Is either the DSS knows what is happening or they should start doing the needful”
