Nuhu Ribadu is a prominent Nigerian lawyer and anti-corruption activist. He gained international recognition for his efforts in combating corruption during his tenure as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria.
He was born on November 21, 1960, in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. He comes from a prominent family in Nigeria and is of the Fulani ethnic group. He received his education at various institutions, including the University of Ahmadu Bello, Zaria, and the Nigerian Law School in Lagos. CONTINUE READING
In 2003, Ribadu was appointed as the pioneer chairman of the EFCC, a government agency established to investigate and prosecute cases of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria. During his tenure, he led high-profile investigations and prosecutions of corrupt politicians, public officials, and business figures. He was known for his fearlessness and determination in tackling corruption, earning him both praise and criticism.
Ribadu’s efforts to fight corruption brought him international recognition. He received several awards and honors, including the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) Award in 2003 and the World Bank’s Integrity Award in 2005.
However, He’s tenure at the EFCC was not without controversy. In 2007, he was controversially removed from his position by the Nigerian government, which many believed was due to political interference. Ribadu went into exile but later returned to Nigeria and became involved in politics.

He contested the 2011 Nigerian presidential election under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) but was unsuccessful. Ribadu has since remained active in Nigerian politics and continues to advocate for good governance, anti-corruption measures, and the rule of law.
Although it is yet to be confirmed if he is truly the National Security Advisor under Tinubu’s government he has likely clinched the seat already. Social Media Critic, Shehu Sani claimed the appointment is very commendable.
He wrote; “The appointment of Nuhu Ribadu as the new NSA is commendable. I was quite aware of the vicious and envious persons who ensured that Ribadu was denied any appointment in the last eight years because of the reason that he was not a buharist. The challenge before him is addressing our security challenges. I wish him all the best.”
