The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is considering legal action against controversial entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, after he failed to respond to an official summons concerning a viral video in which he claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The artist was expected to appear at NAPTIP’s Abuja headquarters by 9:00 a.m. on Friday, but as of noon, officials confirmed he had not shown up.

In a letter signed by Ngamaraju Mangzha, Head of NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team, the singer was directed to present himself to answer questions over the disturbing statements he made during a live Instagram session.

“We’re still waiting. If he doesn’t show up, we’ll act according to the final paragraph of the notice, which is very clear,” a NAPTIP official told Saturday PUNCH on condition of anonymity.

Another official noted that the agency had received no communication from Okoye to explain his absence.

“It’s already evening, and still no word from him. Maybe he’s facing travel delays, but he hasn’t officially reached out,” the source added.

The official further revealed that Lagos State Government was initially contacted by alarmed citizens after the video surfaced, but the matter was referred to NAPTIP’s national headquarters in Abuja due to jurisdictional concerns.

Speaking on the issue, NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Adekoye Vincent, stated that the agency’s Director-General, Binta Bello, is taking the matter seriously and is personally monitoring developments.

“Our DG is highly concerned. She’s tracking the case hour by hour,” Adekoye said.

He also pointed out that Speed Darlington’s admission in the viral video was made voluntarily, without any external pressure.

“He wasn’t coerced. He confessed openly. In fact, in a more recent video, he even said that if he had known the reaction would be so intense, he would have mentioned a 12-year-old instead. That’s deeply troubling,” Adekoye remarked.

When asked about possible arrest or prosecution, Adekoye emphasized that the agency would act within the framework of the law.

“His failure to appear gives us the legal basis to respond accordingly. Whether it leads to prosecution or arrest, rest assured that we’re taking this seriously,” he said.
