Truck Owner Left Stranded As Driver Allegedly Vanishes With ₦200,000 Repair Money
A Nigerian man has narrated how a truck driver allegedly deceived his employer into sending him ₦200,000 for repairs before reportedly disappearing with the money.
The account, shared by social media user @mikeliberation, involved a truck owner who had reportedly purchased a heavy-duty vehicle for about ₦15 million for use in transporting sand. The owner subsequently employed a driver on a monthly salary of ₦75,000 to operate the truck.
According to the account, the driver worked with the owner for more than a year before a disagreement reportedly developed between them. The dispute allegedly followed the owner’s decision to withhold the driver’s salary for two months after claiming that he had not taken the truck on any trips during the period.
The driver reportedly explained that the lack of trips was caused by heavy rainfall, which had reduced the availability of work. However, the owner allegedly maintained his decision not to pay the outstanding salaries.
The situation reportedly took another turn late last month when the driver travelled to another state with the truck for a trip. While on the journey, he allegedly contacted the owner and informed him that the vehicle had broken down.
According to the narrator, the driver claimed that a mechanic had inspected the truck and estimated that ₦200,000 would be required to carry out the necessary repairs. The truck owner reportedly transferred the requested amount to the driver to enable him fix the vehicle and continue the journey.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the driver eventually returned from the trip and parked the truck, but allegedly disappeared shortly afterwards with the ₦200,000 he had received for the purported repairs.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with the account raising questions about trust and accountability in relationships between commercial vehicle owners and their drivers. However, the allegations have not been independently verified, and the identities and sides of the truck owner and driver were not disclosed.
